Home, Temporary Home!

We have a place! And furniture! And cable!
Thursday I filled out the application and signed the lease to rent furniture. What a good idea, to be able to have a fully-furnished place (dining, bedroom and living room sets) month-to-month! Then I signed the apartment lease and moved the entire contents of my car (see post #1) up to the third story. Phew!
I drove around town to get acquainted with the different areas of the city and got some last-minute things for the place. Then I layed out my bed and tossed and turned until I made a nice little dent in the carpet to fall asleep in. #firstworldproblems that, Thursday night, I slept in a sleeping bag… inside.
The movers came in the morning and when I told them our place was on the third floor, he said “shiiiiiii*… I thought we’d have an easy Friday!” I gave them water and a nice tip, and the two of them were up and out in less than an hour- impressive! Now we have temporary furniture, which is actually really cozy!
The cable guy (read in Jim Carey voice, at least by my father) came after that and he reminded me of a kid I know… just older and bigger. Weird when that happens.
I drove around, because I needed to find a little table to prop the TV on. Because we are only staying a few months (maybe?), and because I’m my mother’s daughter, I went to a thrift store and found one, plus some storage baskets (for DVDs and, likely, video games) for $6! #winning
I also had to get sheets. He is so lucky because if it were only up to me (which, it sort of is..) I would get a bright orange and pink comforter, maybe add some green or purple. But, we have a gray-and-white comforter and orange sheets because those make me happy!
The town I ended up in was really cute; hilly and green and brick. Like, I could own a farm, an auto shop and a pub, and it would be realistic here in this town. I saw store signs like “Tractor Supply Store,” “Guns and Feed,” and “Wilson’s 5¢-$1” (which is a misnomer, because I went in that store and bought a spatula for $1.49).
Anyway, I got some Carolina BBQ because I was starving (what is it with moving and crazy hunger?). I went in the little restaurant and I was really reminded I was in the south. Not that it’s a bad thing but twang is in up here. I asked her what was the very best and got that. Sweet potato pie? Yes, please!
It’s a beautiful day (cool but a little cloudy) here in Greenville, so all the windows in our little place are open. I can hear an announcer across the street at the "arena" (aka park in American-talk) announce little Johnny from Greenville, and Maurice from Greer. I'm imagining they are futbol players and probably 12 years old.
On the third floor, I’m up with the trees- it’s awesome!! Come visit me, friends and fam! I’ve got a sleeping bag for ya!
I promise to do something fun soon!! Now that my “adult duties” are complete (except the job thing), I’m set to enjoy all Greenville has to offer!
P.S. I hope we're still here for ya... Mike had a dream he got traded... after only day 2 of the season...
Oh! He had his first outing last night for 1 inning- came in the bottom of the 8th with the bases loaded and no outs. 2 strikeouts, a hit and a pop out. #baseballgroupie
